Back Pain

Back pain is probably the most common complaint any physiotherapist has to deal with. Many causes include; long periods sitting in the chair at work or in the car, repeated bending, lifting or carrying, heavy impact sports, being overweight, poor core stability muscle function, sleeping in odd positions, during or after pregnancy...the list goes on. Often the treatment is simple and we will provide you with comprehensive advice to help manage your back better in the future.

Sprains and Strains

Sprains and strains can be sport related, or caused by innocuous trips or slips, doing repetitive activities such as gardening or even using the keyboard too much at work. All muscle and ligament problems can be dealt with and if physiotherapy management is not appropriate then guidance will be given as to where to get the best treatment.

Upper and lower limb sports injuries

These types of injuries are wide ranging from shoulder strains from playing tennis to shin and foot problems from running, and everything in between. We aim to do everything possible to keep you out on that court or pounding those streets but not to the detriment of your body. Often leaving things to worsen only makes it more difficult to treat, so, when you start feeling a niggle, get it looked at quickly!

Pre and post-operative assessment and rehabilitation

When surgery is needed it is essential to have the right advice before and after operations in order for optimal results to be achieved. We deal with the rehabilitation of all orthopaedic surgery procedures, providing a comfortable treatment environment, state-of-the-art private gym, plentiful nearby parking and no stairs!

Work-related postural problems

The day-to-day grind of sitting at the computer or sitting in the car can play havoc with your anatomy. The repetitive loading of your joints is sometimes too much and pain results. Physiotherapy can help to treat your immediate problem but also give long-term solutions to the problem such as exercises and postural advice.

Biomechanical problems

Biomechanics is the science of how our joints move in relation to each other and how the forces going through our bodies are distributed. In the real world, those forces need to be spread over our joint surfaces so that no one structure takes on too much as the result is tissue damage and then pain.
Examples include; the wearing of poor or inappropriate footwear, leading to foot, ankle, or knee pain; or changing a golf swing, which can often result in back pain.
The physiotherapist can assess the relative stresses on the affected areas and advise on strategies to decrease those excessive loading forces.

Headaches

The head is affected by so many structures together with other environmental conditions. We as physiotherapists, focus on the way the skeletal and muscular systems exert pressure onto the head. There are many factors influencing this including; posture, decreased neck movements, whiplash injuries, jaw movements and irritated nerves.

Injury Prevention Screening

Whatever the time of year or a person's stage in life, we all start exercising sometime, and with that comes the inherent risk of overdoing it and resulting in injury. To decrease this risk, our physiotherapists provide a one-off full body screen to identify any possible injury 'hot-spots' and then provide advice and exercises to complement your individual training programme.
